Who We Are

This website is sanatana-dharma.info — a free educational blog dedicated to exploring the philosophy, scriptures, traditions, and wisdom of Sanathana Dharma. The site does not sell products or services and does not operate for commercial gain.

For any privacy-related enquiries, you can contact us at: bizburn.rj@gmail.com

What Data We Collect and Why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form — your name, email address, website (optional), and comment content — along with your IP address and browser user-agent string. This information is used to help detect and prevent spam.

An anonymised string (hash) derived from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. The Gravatar privacy policy applies to this data. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have one) will be publicly visible alongside your comment.

Contact Forms

This site uses Ninja Forms to power any contact or enquiry forms. When you submit a form, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, and message. This data is:

  • Stored securely in the WordPress database
  • Used solely to respond to your enquiry
  • Never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes
  • Retained only as long as necessary to handle your request

Analytics and SEO

This site uses SEOPress for search engine optimisation. SEOPress may collect anonymised data about how visitors interact with the site (pages visited, referral sources, approximate location by country) to help us understand site performance and improve content. This data does not personally identify you. If SEOPress analytics are connected to a third-party service such as Google Analytics, that service’s own privacy policy will also apply.

Media Uploads

If you upload images to the website (registered contributors only), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. This site uses the following categories of cookies:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They include:

  • Comment cookies — if you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website for future visits. These cookies last for one year.
  • Login cookies — when you log in, WordPress sets cookies to save your session. Login cookies last two days; screen-preference cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks.
  • Session detection cookie — a temporary cookie set when you visit the login page to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • Editor cookie — if you edit or publish an article, a cookie storing the post ID is saved for one day. It contains no personal data.

Analytics Cookies

If analytics tracking is active via SEOPress or a connected service such as Google Analytics, cookies may be set to distinguish visitors and record session data anonymously. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Third-Party Services

Hosting — Hostinger

This website is hosted on Hostinger. As part of normal web hosting operations, Hostinger processes server logs that may include your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security, performance monitoring, and abuse prevention. Please refer to Hostinger’s Privacy Policy for details.

Google Fonts

This site’s design (built with Elementor) may load fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font file, Google’s servers receive your IP address and browser information. Google may use this data in accordance with their Privacy Policy. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google beyond what is transmitted as part of a standard web request.

Spam Detection — Akismet

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Comment data (including IP address and email hash) may be submitted to Akismet for spam analysis. Please refer to the Automattic Privacy Policy for details.

Embedded Content

Articles on this site may include embedded content from other websites (such as YouTube videos or social media posts). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited those websites directly — they may set cookies, collect data about you, use additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, particularly if you are logged in to those services.

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. Data may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Password reset — if you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
  • Spam detection — comment data may be shared with Akismet for spam analysis (see above).
  • Hosting infrastructure — Hostinger processes data as part of providing the hosting service.
  • Legal obligation — we may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests.

How Long We Retain Your Data

  • Comments — retained indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue.
  • Contact form submissions — retained only as long as needed to respond to your enquiry, then deleted.
  • User accounts — if you register on this site, your profile data is stored for as long as your account remains active. You can request deletion at any time.
  • Server logs — retained by Hostinger in accordance with their own data retention policy.
  • Analytics data — aggregated, anonymised analytics data may be retained for up to 26 months.

Your Rights Over Your Data

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — you can request that we delete your personal data, except where we are legally required to retain it.
  • Right to portability — you can request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — you can object to certain types of processing, such as direct marketing (this site does not engage in direct marketing).

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can exercise these rights by contacting us at bizburn.rj@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. This includes SSL/TLS encryption on all pages of this site (indicated by the padlock in your browser’s address bar). However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
